esthetician study classes
It’s less about books and more about practice…

Those who are new to the field of aesthetics may not be completely clear on what they’ll be learning as they progress through the program.

Estheticians are experts in skin care.  Skin care covers quite a few different topics. Some of those topics are part of a cosmetologists training as well. As estheticians progress with their training they learn more advanced techniques and procedures to try with their clients. Find skin care classes near you by entering your ZIP below:

Skin Care Esthetician Classes

Esthetician students learn as much as they possibly can about the skin. They learn to recognize and diagnose problems of the skin, and how to take care of them. Estheticians become experts in facials, microdermabrasion, peels, and scrubs. They learn what each of these different processes do for the skin, and when to recommend each to their clients. Problems with the skin could include everything from acne to recognizing skin cancer. There is a lot of ground to cover. Nowadays it is also possible to learn holistic skin care. Hair Removal in Esthetics – Classes Beyond Cutting

Although the skin is the primary focus for estheticians, hair removal and dealing with facial and body hair is another aspect of their knowledge. During hair removal courses, students should expect to learn about:

  • Waxing
  • Threading
  • Sugaring
  • Depilatory creams
  • Electrolysis

They learn which processes work best for specific parts of the body, and for specific skin types. They also learn how to provide these services to clients while causing the least discomfort possible. In addition, students learn how each of these processes impact the skin, and regrowth of the hair. Learning laser hair removal is not a standard part of most courses.

Makeup Application & Removal in Esthetician Classes

Since makeup is applied to the skin, estheticians also do a lot of work regarding makeup application and removal. They learn how to make their clients look their best while taking the best care possible of the skin. They may offer classes to their clients as well. Many people want to be educated on proper makeup application and removal and sometimes even nail care.

Estheticians can also become experienced with permanent makeup solutions. They are an excellent choice for clients who want to look great all the time, without having to apply makeup on a daily basis. The process involves tattooing the makeup in place. Students may need to seek a specialized training program if they wish to go this route.

Body Treatments You Might Learn in Esthetics Classes

Skin on the body requires care as well, and esthetician students learn how to use microdermabrasion, peels, and scrubs on the skin on the body as well as the face as well as blackhead extractions. Students also learn other techniques, such as how to do head and neck massages, how to perform reflexology treatments, and even basic aromatherapy techniques. While these may not all be the chief reason that clients seek out the services of an esthetician, they are skills that help to pamper their clients and educate the clients on how to look and feel great all over.

While each school’s program may vary a little in order to meet the standards set forth by the state board of cosmetology, the courses should be similar from one school to another. Students of esthetics can choose to stick with a general practice once they are licensed, or they can choose to specialize in any of the areas in which they have gained expertise.
