The South Dakota license and exam is applied for after graduation from an esthetician school. To apply, according to the SD Board, one must have completed at least six hundred hours training in esthetician and out of those, at least one hundred and ten hours must have been in coursework, demonstration and practice. The application serves both as an application for examination and as an application for the initial license. The requirements for application include being eighteen years old and above and submitting documents proving your identity and academic qualifications. A person is required to take both practical and written exams.

Exams

Two weeks before your scheduled practical exam, you will receive an Admission notice from the commission. It is necessary that you read the South Dakota Practical Exam Candidate Information Bulletin keenly before taking this exam.

The exam requires you to carry a kit and a live model that you will use in demonstrating esthetician services.To pass the exam, one must attain at least 75 percent. The official exam results will be sent to your mail two to three weeks after the exam completion.

Law Test

This exam comprises of a total of twenty-five questions which are all written. The exam is based on the laws of South Dakota State. Therefore, to prepare for the exam, you are supposed to go through an online copy of the South Dakota State Laws and Regulations.

Skin Care Specialists Moving to SD

Those licensed as aestheticians in other states and would like to apply for a South Dakota esthetician license are required to submit relevant documents indicating their education and experience. Upon completion of both exams, you will be issued with a license by the South Dakota Commission.
