Is it any wonder that one of Delaware’s nickname is “The Diamond State”? With about 6 out of every hundred income-earners a millionaire the title seems apt! It’s a small state with both an ocean coastline and productive agricultural land. Its wealth means that many of its citizens have the income for luxury treatments and pampering like nail art and manicures. Find out what it takes to become a nail tech in Delaware below.
Unlike many states you can become a nail tech via apprenticeship in DE. It does take longer though. It’s 600 hours compared to 300 hours if you take your training in a school.
Training consists of a mix of learning health and safety as it applies to the profession. You will learn some anatomy and theory, cosmetology laws, proper techniques for nail care protocols, use of nail tools, client relations, and so on.
After your training is complete you’ll need to prove your skills in written and practical tests in order to get your license. Licenses are renewed every two years and require only a renewal fee and no extra hours of continuing education. Of course there is nothing wrong with expanding your skill set by taking extra courses…
Also take a look at the 28 supplies you’ll need — including tools and equipment — in order to do your nail training.

In a nutshell Schilling-Douglas’s mission is to prepare students for licensing exams and employment as a happy and successful professional.
Delaware Learning Institute of Cosmetology – 32448 Royal Boulevard, Ste. A, Dagsboro 19939 – The state’s only Pivot Point school DLIC considers four aspects of training to be critical. 1. Leadership Skills, 2. Cultural Awareness, 3. Financial Awareness, 4. Portfolio Development. These all work together to prep the student for cosmetology board examinations and entry-level nail positions.
