Requirements at Nail Technician Schools in Kentucky

Becoming a nail technician in Kentucky is a lot of work, but it’s also engaging and interesting. Once you’ve proven your education requirements (you need at least a high school education) you can choose one Kentucky’s beauty schools to get your required 600 hours of study and training.

You’ll take courses in everything from career development, safety concerns, nail and skin disorders, and manicure and pedicure techniques. You may also choose to specialize in hand and arm massages. Your school is also where you will learn about Kentucky laws pertaining to salons, and take your practical exam.

Get Your Nail Tech License in Kentucky

Once you’ve completed your required hours for education and training, and passed the practical issued by your school, you can take the written exam. Be sure to schedule before your graduation.

Out-Of-State

Kentucky does not have endorsement or reciprocity agreements with any state. If you’re looking to transfer your license, you will have to apply for an out of state license. You will be required to prove your education is equal or greater than that required by the state. You’ll also need to prove a current license, and take and pass the Kentucky State Board’s written exam.

How To Renew Your Nail Tech License in KY

Kentucky State Board of Cosmetologists requires you to renew your license every year. The date of renewal is any time in the month of July. You are not required any continuing education courses to renew, but you must submit the renewal form and pay the licensing fee before the end of July.
