Find Out How Long The Training Takes
To be an eligible nail technician in Oklahoma, you must graduate from a manicurist school in the region. To qualify for such a college you must be above 16 years old and have completed eighth grade. To graduate you must complete at least 600 hours of learning.
What You’ll Learn
Also, ensure that you attend a school approved by the Oklahoma Board of Cosmetology. To graduate, you must cover these subjects:
- The structure of nails, composition, diseases, and disorders.
- Manicure and pedicure.
- Nail art and various designs.
- Nail sanitization, sterilization, and bacteriology.
- Artificial nails designs and care.
- Rules, laws, and regulations of cosmetology.
- Development of salon business including ethics, professionalism, business skills, hygiene, public health, advertising among other topics.
Completing an Apprenticeship
In the event that you cannot afford to join a college, or are barred by other reasons, you can still become eligible to get licensed by becoming an apprenticeship. First, make sure that you choose a licensed manicurist to work with. The course must cover at least 1200 hours of study. Also, ensure that you submit evidence that you cannot afford financially to complete the normal or traditional manicurist school. Find a school near you below:
The Exams & License
After apprenticeship or school training you must do an exam to get your certificate. The exam consists of both a theoretical exam and practical aspect. The theory or written part has two main areas:
- Nail technology procedures which cover 60% of the test. This covers areas like: client preparation, tools used in nail service, pedicures and manicures, nail enhancements, application, removal, and maintenance, clean-up and disinfection procedures
- Scientific Concepts – which covers 40% of the test.
On completing the theory test, you must do a practical test. The practical test gives you an opportunity to demonstrate your skills hands-on to an examiner. The practical aspect tests the techniques and procedures covered during your training.
Once you have completed both tests hand over your results to the board to get your license. The license is valid for one year only, thus ensure that you renew it annually.
