Kansas Hour & Class Requirements At Beauty School

Kansas is home to some of the best cosmetology schools in the US. The Kansas State Cosmetology Board requires you to finish 1500 hours of training, and cover topics ranging from facial and skin care, manicuring, and hair cutting and coloring.

You must be at least 17 years old, and have completed a high school diploma (and maybe have already done some beauty classes in high school) or equivalent. At a good cosmetology school, you’re sure to find plenty of interesting and exciting subjects to study. You can even take continuing education classes for advanced techniques and trends!

Get Your Kansas Cosmetology License

You will need to take two exams to be licensed as a cosmetologist. The written and practical exams are designed to test your knowledge on both the theoretical knowledge of anatomy and disease and bacteriology, and your practical knowledge of cutting, coloring and styling hair, and practical makeup application.

You will need to schedule your exams yourself, and you must score 75% or higher on both exams to pass. Your exam results will be posted two weeks after you take your exams, and you will be able to apply for licensing.

Licensing For Those From Other States

If you currently hold a license in good standing at another state, you may qualify for licensure in Kentucky. To do that, you must have the licensing board in your home state submit proof of your license, your completed education hours, and work experience to the KS Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists.

If your home state requires fewer hours than Kansas, you may be required to sit the Kansas theory exam.

Renew Your Kansas Cosmetology License

Your license expires every two years on your birth month. You must renew your license by the last day of the month, or you will be required to pay additional fees. Permanent makeup artists and cosmetology instructors must submit to continuing education hours, but most cosmetologists are not required to take any additional courses.
