West Virginia’s natural beauty is a huge draw for celebrities and other wealthy families. The beauty industry in West Virginia is also experiencing growth.
If you love working with makeup and helping clients relax and look their best, a career as an esthetician may be the best choice for you. With so many specialties to choose from, choosing among the schools is the place to start your journey.
Hours Required at WV Esthetician Schools
All training programs in West Virginia require a negative TB test. There are many esthetician institutions that have been approved by the state, but none of them have a holistic approach as far as we know. It’s not that complicated to complete the necessary program, etc.
Once you have confirmed your GED or high school diploma, you will need to get 600 hours of study at one of these programs. After the first 200 hours of study, you’ll start practicing your techniques. Find your school nearby by entering your ZIP in our app below:
Your studies will cover salon management, health, safety, and hygiene, as well as teach you the finer points of hair treatments and removal, makeup, and basic and advanced facials.
Procedure To Get Your Esthetician License
To get a West Virginia license, you need to complete three exams in a single day.
First is the Law Exam, which tests your knowledge of the rules and regulations you will be adhering to in your new career.
Next comes the written and practical exams.
The written exam is given to test your knowledge of scientific concepts and chemistry.
The practical tests your ability to perform the tasks you will need to know to create a safe and comfortable work environment and tests you on a variety of treatments. You can check the board’s website online for details of what to bring in your kit and the requirements for your mannequin.
Out-Of-State License
If you are currently licensed in another state, you can get your license by reciprocity. If you have less than the required 600 hours of training, the West Virginia Board will give you 25 credit hours for each month you have been employed in the last year.
How To Renew Your West Virginia Esthetician License
Your certification should be renewed every two years. You are required to complete at least four continuing education credits during each renewal period.
You could spend only a few hours upgrading with something like microblading classes, or you could really advance your career through something like esthetics treatments for cancer patients.
You renew your license through Aequo International. The instructions are available online.
