Those wishing to acquire professional standing as an esthetician in Idaho are required to complete not less than 600 hours of training at one of the many good schools in the state.
Topics covered in classes and programs are similar to those in other states. Details can be found here.
In addition, getting some credit is not unheard of if you do some of your studies online. Online training can reduce the total cost of esthetician school in some cases. Expect to pay more and spend more time on your studies if you want medical esthetician training in Idaho.
After graduation, a candidate for licensing must — according to the state board — take…
- Theory or written Exams – To qualify for the written exams, the student can go to the school directly or fill out the application form available online.
- Practical Exams – This exam is held to determine whether the student is effective in practicing esthetics services. The exam is scheduled to last for three hours.

Getting the License
To qualify for an esthetician license, the Idaho Board requires that the student attain a passing score of a minimum of 75% in both the written and practical exams. After successfully passing both exams, the student can send a written application to the Idaho Board of Cosmetology.
The following documents should accompany the application letter:
- Means of identification.
- Copy of a transcript or diploma from a high school. In case of a name change in any documents, the student must provide evidence of legal documents showing the change of name.
- Pay the prescribed application fee.
Request for Idaho’s Endorsement to be an Esthetician
Licensed estheticians who may require a license from Idaho can only qualify for an Idaho license endorsement if possessing an esthetician’s license from a different jurisdiction. The applicant who meets this requirement can then forward an application to the Idaho Board for approval. If the applicant fails to meet this requirement, they may be required to get additional training or write an exam.
Renewal of Idaho License
The license issued by Idaho is valid for one year, after which the holder of the license is expected to renew the license. Idaho will forward an application form for renewal by email six weeks before the license expiration date. The license holder must fill out the application form and send it to the Board of Idaho or submit it online. The license holder is also expected to pay the prescribed application fee for renewal.
