Time Required to Finish A Program at Beauty Schools In Arkansas

Cosmetology programs in Arkansas may be at the junior college, vocational school or dedicated cosmetology schools. Generally public schools will be less expensive than private schools. You may be able to cut costs further if you start your training in high school.

Before you start, though, you’ll be asked to prove 2 years of high school education, and your age and identity. You will also need to be 16 years old.

There are either certificate or diploma programs. You will study a 1500 hour course that includes manicure and pedicure techniques, hair and makeup, and even skin care treatments.

An associate degree may also include business practices, and advanced esthetics and plastic surgery techniques and may be a little more challenging. To expand your skills, you might choose to complete 350 hours of electrolysis training, but that should come in addition to the 1500 hours you need for your degree. You also need to be 18 for an electrolysis license.

Getting Your Beauty License in AR

The Arkansas Department of Health Cosmetology Section (website) requires you pass the NIC exams once you’ve finished your education. That means one practical and one theory exam. You apply and pay your fees, and you can schedule your exams online or by phone.

Once you’ve passed with 75% or higher, you are automatically licensed and can begin working as a beauty specialist!

Out-Of-State

Arkansas has reciprocity agreements with any state whose licenses have comparable requirements. You’ll need to prove your education included at least 1500 hours of study. You will also need to pay the application fee. If you got your license through an apprenticeship, you may not be eligible for an Arkansas license without an exam.

License Renewal For Cosmetology in Arkansas

You should renew your license every two years. Date of renewal is on your birthday. There are no continuing education requirements. But many Arkansas cosmetologists open their own salons and spas, so courses in customer service fields and small business may be helpful as you grow.

Get The Perfect Job After Graduation

The pay for Arkansas cosmetologists is growing as the beauty industry grows.

As you’ve seen, there are plenty of options for working as a cosmetologist, electrolysis specialist, and even cosmetology instructor.

With the growing number of beauty schools, spas, medical and cosmetic surgery offices available in Arkansas, a quick look online will offer plenty of options to start your new and exciting career!
