How Long Does Is Barber Training In South Carolina?
To meet the state’s licensing requirement, you must attend a school or schools that offers at least 1500 hours of practical training. You’ll cover professional ethics and shop management, along with shaving, men’s haircutting, hair and scalp treatments, and facial treatments.
If you cannot make time to attend a registered program, you have the option to complete on-the-job training, through a 12-month apprenticeship covering at least 1,920 hours. You might also be able to attend classes part-time during evenings and weekends.
SC Barber’s License
You will need to set your own application for license and examination at the same time. If you are a student, you will need to provide proof of accreditation, and for an apprenticeship, proof of your hours.
Once you’ve completed all your application materials you will be approved for testing by mail. Your approval letter will include authorization to take the written exam, and an admission notice to take your practical. Remember to bring your own kit and model to your practical exam.

If you have a prior barber license from another state you may be able to obtain a new license through reciprocity.
You will need to submit an application along with a letter from your home state’s licensing board, and two notarized statements from licensed barbers in good standing who will vouch for your status.
