If you are currently working as a manicurist or nail tech in another state, you may be eligible for license by endorsement in North Carolina. You will need to prove a current license, and have taken a state-board approved or national exam. Your current license needs to be active, with no black marks or disciplinary action.

Renew Your License

Cosmetologist licenses, including nail technician, renew every three years in North Carolina.

You must prove eight hours of continuing education in that three year period. The state board can audit your continuing education credits at any time, so keep records of your course title, description, date of location and number of hours. At least 50% of credits in a given 3 year period should be concerning direct practice in the cosmetic arts. The board will notify you in advance of your renewal date, and you can renew online, or through a paper renewal form.
