Find out more about nail technician schools here.

Becoming a nail technician is an exciting prospect and opens a wealth of opportunities within an ever-growing industry. In order to become a nail professional in Florida there are a number of education and regulation requirements you must first meet. These requirements ensure you can safely provide specialist manicuring and pedicuring procedures including cuts, tints, polishes, colors, extensions, cleaning the nails and hand massages. Step 1 is to find a good school. Enter your ZIP below to see what’s available and come to an informed decision about where you’d like to study to become a licensed FL nail technician.

Completing a nail speciality program through a Florida beauty college will consist of not less than 240 hours of education. Training will cover everything from sanitation and ethics to hands on training in manicures, pedicures, tips, nail repair, polishing and buffing and nail art. Once you have completed this course with a score of 75% or better in the final examination, the school will issue you with a certificate of completion.

After completing a nail speciality program you must submit an “Application for Initial License Based on Florida Education”. This can be done through an online portal at the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. A fee of $85 is required (2016-2017).

Once approved you will receive a registration from the department. While you are waiting on your registration you may practice as a nail specialist under the supervision of a registered nail specialist in a licensed beauty salon.

You are required to renew your Florida nail specialist registration every two years. This can be done online at myfloridalicense.com. You must first activate a personal account. The renewal fee is $55. During the renewal period all nail specialists based in Florida must complete 16 hours of Board-approved continuing education credits.
