How Long Do Cosmetology Schools In Rhode Island Take?

RI boasts a growing population of cosmetologists with one of the best hiring rates in the country.

To become a licensed hair dresser, you will need to start with a cosmetologist program from a registered school.

The program should be at least 1500 hours long.

You’ll learn everything from hair styling and scalp treatments, to nail manicures, and massage. You may also take courses in salon management, or specialize with electrolysis equipment.

Your License For Cosmetology in RI

Since you should have at least a GED to apply for license, you’ll need to provide proof of education before applying.

Once your educational records have been confirmed, you can take your exams.

The written exam covers theoretical concepts like scientific concepts, and skin and hair care. The practical has you practice the concept you’ve learned on a mannequin. Once you have passed, the Professionals Regulation Office will issue your license.

Out-Of-State License Candidates

To apply to change your license from your home state to Rhode Island, you need to submit the application for license, along with your current out-of-state license, your educational transcripts, and official verification from your out out-of-state board that you have written and passed your exams.

Beauty License Renewal In Rhode Island

Your license expires on October 30th every two years. To renew your license, you need to complete the renewal form you get in the mail, and submit it and the renewal fee to the Board. There are no continuing education requirements currently, but you should feel free to continue your education on your own time, through courses, trade schools, and equipment training.
