How Long Does It Take To Graduate From Cosmetology Schools in Colorado?

Colorado takes a relaxed view toward getting your license and education in cosmetology. You do need to find a registered cosmetology program that consists of at least 60 credit hours. You also need to prove that you are at least 16 years old, and have a tenth grade education.

You could choose from there to specialize in manicure, hair, or skin care.

You’ll study everything from massage, facials, hair cutting, or manicure and pedicures, depending on how you choose to specialize. You receive your associate degree, but the courses take only a few months, leaving you lots of time to build up your job experience.

Beauty License in CO

To start the process of getting licensed as a cosmetologist, you must first apply to complete your exams. Your application includes your hours of study and certification. You should be approved within 48 hours. There are two exams. The practical, which is about two and a half hours, and the written, which is about two hours of multiple choice questions. You have one year after your application date to pass the exams before you need to submit again.

Out-Of-State

If you have a license in good standing in another state, and can prove similar education requirements, you can transfer your current license Colorado. 30 education hours is 1 credit, so you’ll need 1800 credited hours of work. You will still need to take the Colorado practical and written exams to have your license transferred so you can work.

CO License Renewal — Cosmetology

Your license needs to be renewed every two years past the date of issue. The final date of renewal is April 30th. There are no continuing education requirements, but you’re always able to take on more courses. Business courses are encouraged, and if you have 3 years experience, you may decide to study to become a cosmetology instructor, which can actually double your salary!
