More about makeup artist schools here.
Alberta is a great place to start a career in the beauty industry. There are plenty of exciting opportunities across the province for a dedicated, passionate makeup artist. Alberta gives you the freedom to operate without a license or certificate while offering you the opportunity to take fantastic programs at schools aimed at improving your skills, even as you are working. Being able to work without a license offers you opportunities in this exciting field, so you can start pursing your own passion straight away.
What Will You Learn?
Because Alberta does not have a licensing requirement for a makeup artist, your path to your dream career may vary. You may choose to enroll in a school for cosmetologists, estheticians, or even a specialized makeup program. Depending on your goals, you may opt for an apprenticeship, starting at an established salon and getting your knowledge through experience.
A well-rounded program will teach you the basics in skin care, colour analogy, and the latest techniques and technology for makeup and makeup removal. You may also opt to learn special effects makeup for television and theatre, and even advanced techniques like electrolysis and permanent makeup.
License
Because you do not need a license to work as a makeup artist or esthetician in the province, you don’t need to renew or take part in continuing education after you have secured your first job.
But the beauty industry offers plenty of opportunities if you are flexible, and willing to learn new skills. Staying flexible in terms of your career goals and interests allows you to build a bigger client base, and take on more challenging opportunities which can offer you a better paycheck and more security in this industry.
If you are looking to move to Alberta, you do not need to have a current license. However, the more experience you have the better it will be for you as you seek opportunities in the field. Getting your Red Seal accreditation can help you move from province to province to work in trades. These require a separate exam. Visit the website to determine your eligibility.
