Four Beauty Trends for Fall 2017

Part of being a student of beauty or a beauty industry professional is keeping up with the latest trends and news in fashion and beauty. So here’s our take on a few of the many changes and new ideas arising in the makeup, cosmetology, esthetics, nail or barbering fields for the last month or two…

Pop On Nails

In case you haven’t heard already, Static Nails has a relatively new product that is a vast improvement on press-on nails. Modern manufacturing and improvements in materials (lighter! thinner!) has allowed them to make temporary nails that look more realistic and feel less like heavy foreign objects on the ends of your fingers. They’re even hard to tell apart from real nails.

Color du Jour: Red

Yes! Though it is getting late in the season bold, bright red has taken the spotlight for the past couple of months. We are not talking about subtle reds like brick, or wine, or even ruby or currant… we are talking about bright, in-your-face, unmistakable RED. Try adding it by using earrings, a scarf, or a hat if the weather’s getting cold in your area.

Hairstyle Comeback for The Blowout

In line with the brashness of raw red is the classic blowout. This style is not for everyone but it did look great on runways recently. A good blowout is a somewhat sophisticated and very feminine look that often goes well with the classic red. If it is cooling off in your area then topping it all of with a toque or hat can accentuate the curled, bouncy ends nicely. Examples.

Makeup: Using Two Different Lipstick Colours

Again with the red theme… you can try two different colors of lipstick — one for the bottom lip the other for the top. Two slightly different reds will work well. If you are more adventurous you can try two colors that contrast strongly like a peach and a dark red. I like the subtle contrast that doesn’t overwhelm people but does make them look twice — if they are close enough.
