Your NM Beauty License
Once you have completed your study period, you will need to apply for your exams before you can be licensed. New Mexico uses the NIC written and practical exams, both of which must be passed with a 75% or higher in order to be licensed. You’ll also need to pass the state jurisprudence exam, to prove your knowledge of the laws and standards of working as a cosmetologist.
If you’re currently or have in the past been licensed from another state, you may still be required to take the exams and be certified by the New Mexico Board.
You must prove you have completed at least 1600 hours of cosmetology training, or at least five years of full time experience. You must also prove you are over 17, and have a high school education. You’ll still need to prove your NIC scores, and take the New Mexico Jurisprudence exam.
