Did you know one of Nevada’s nicknames is “The Sagebrush State”? Most of the state’s beauty schools are centered around Las Vegas and Reno though Carson City has recently had a new one established. To be successful as a nail tech requires the basics just like any other career. That’s why the state of Nevada is very serious about people attending a structured nail training program — online or off — before being given a license.

Training Requirements

Nail training schools empower one with skills and competencies regarding manicures, pedicures, airbrush and decorating nails. The programs cover at the very least nail art, nail design, nail application, use of nail tools and proper sanitation procedures. Usually basic massage knowledge for hand, foot, and calf are taught. The minimum training threshold is 600 hours as set by the state of Nevada.

For persons wishing to practice in Nevada several requirements have to be satisfied. The board must be furnished with original school hours and subjects are taken with a breakdown of hours taken per subject. This approval step by the Nevada Board is compulsory before an interested party can apply for a nail technician license.

Licensing

An Application Request Form also has to be filled out by successful trainees before a license is issued. The final step is to complete a practical and written exam. This test mainly covers two areas: the classroom studies and the state laws of Nevada related to the nail profession.

Once you have license in hand your hunt for a well-paying/salaried nail position can be facilitated either by your school or by a work-finding website.

License Renewal

On one’s birthday every two years one is expected to renew their nail technologist and cosmetology license. The State mandates that one undertakes four hours of continued education to develop and grow one’s expertise. Wishing you all the best of luck. Remember the best marketer for one’s business is a happy customer.

Once you are ready to work you can start you’re career through networking. There are also job search sites to help you.
