How Long Does Makeup Training Take In PA?
In Pennsylvania, you have two options to become a makeup artist. Since there is no makeup artist certificate you could train for a general cosmetologist license, or an esthetics license.
As an esthetician, you will be expected to train in a program at least 300 hours long, and pass your exam.

As an esthetician, you will learn about facial massage, skin care, and makeup. As a general cosmetologist, you’ll also take courses in hair styling and treatment, hair removal, and bacteriology.
Pennsylvania Makeup License
Specific licensing requirements depend on the educational path you choose. But all cosmetologist careers in Pennsylvania take the Pennsylvania state exam, a combination of written and practical examination design to test what you have learned.
You must be at least 16 years old and have at least a 10th grade education in order to qualify to take your exam. You must apply and submit your application fee online.
Already A MUA and Moving To PA?
If you are moving to Pennsylvania from another state, and you currently hold an active license in another state, you may qualify for a license by reciprocity.
You must be able to prove to the board your current license, education, and exam results, as well as having a license in good standing for the last two years. The two years of working experience must equal up to full time hours. You will also need to download and complete the license application online, and pay the fee.
Renew Your License
The date of your renewal for your Pennsylvania state estheticians license is January 31st of every odd-numbered year. No continuing education is required, simply pay the fee, and apply using the renewal application online.
