Working as a makeup artist is all about knowing the latest beauty trends, but it’s also about people. The Connecticut beauty industry is one of the most exciting industries in the state, thanks to the rigorous training provided by its top beauty schools. There aren’t as many academies as larger states like TX, but the training is every bit as good.

The vacation spot of choice of many of the wealthy and glamourous, makes this a great place to start in any creative industry, but especially in an industry that’s all about pampering! Embrace your social nature, and let yourself fall in love with makeup, and build a great career. And it starts with getting your license.

Program Requirements

You have two options when you’re looking into becoming a makeup artist in Connecticut. You can skip licensing altogether, by studying and working toward a makeup certificate program, or you can receive a full diploma or even degree in cosmetology. If you choose, you can even do both, since makeup artistry programs tend to be shorter and less rigorous. These cover all the fundamentals of color theory, skin care, and makeup application. A cosmetology program is more rigorous, and consists of a 1500 hour course. It covers everything from hair, skin, and nail care, as well as makeup artistry.

If you’re really looking to specialize and are passionate about makeup, you can choose the shorter option, but a full cosmetologist license will give you more flexibility to enhance your skills later on.

Getting Your License

No specific license requirements are needed to get or maintain a makeup artist license in CT. If you have a cosmetologist license, you’ll need to renew every two years.

Just because there are no specific license requirements for Connecticut makeup artists, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be constantly updating your skills. There are plenty of branches of makeup artistry, and Connecticut beauty schools have a lot to offer.
