It is a requirement of the Mississippi Board for you to receive at least 600 hours of training from a licensed esthetician school (whether online or off). Schools need to present this training in the form of both practical and theoretical courses with a minimum of at least 100 involving theoretical principals. More hours will be needed for a medical or oncology skin care license in MS (more $ too).

The other 500 hours will be utilized towards basic curriculum and skills like salon management and hair removal. It is the duty of your school to submit a final report of your marks to the Mississippi Board indicating that you are finished with the required courses to their satisfaction.

Upon completion of the Mississippi esthetics program, you are then required to submit the examination approval paperwork along with your request for a work permit. This confirms to the board that you are prepared to take the Mississippi licensing exam. You’ll need:

  • Approval Form
  • Passport Photos
  • Application Fee

Prior to taking and passing your licensing exams, this application gives you permission to work under the direct supervision of an established esthetician.

Passing Your Experiential and Written Licensing Exams

Do not forget to download the Mississippi Cosmetology Information Bulletin Form that explains scheduling for the exam, what supplies you will need to take the exam, and their separate curriculum as well.

When taking the practical exam, you are going to need to have your personal kit, smock, and a mannequin to perform various services on.

Your written esthetician exam is made up of 100 questions which you will be allotted one hour and forty-five minutes to answer.

In order for the Mississippi Board to issue a license, you have to score at least a 70% on both the experiential and written exams.

Esthetician License Renewal in MS

You are required to renew your Mississippi License every two years. Prior to your renewal time, the board will send out a letter informing you about it, which will need to be filled out and sent in with the additional renewal cost. There are no requirements for further education to get your license renewed.
