How Long Is A Nevada Barber Training Program & What Will You Learn?

You’ll spend 1,500 hours in your program which will be a mix of theory and practice (but mostly practice). In NY there is no set amount of hours for a course, and in some other states more than 2,000 hours are required so Nevada falls somewhere in the middle. Find the closest school to you by using our app below:

Theory/book learning classes will feature topics like anatomy, chemicals, state laws, customer service principles and so on. Practical lessons will involve things you’d expect like cutting and styling hair, shaving, and sanitation, but also topics you might not expect like implement maintenance, facials and wigs.

Your NV Barber’s Licensing Procedure

Even after you’ve finished your classes and graduated, you’ll still need to go through the licensing procedure.

The first thing you’ll need to do is apply for your apprentice barber license. This will allow you to study under a master barber for eighteen months to fully prepare you to be an independent professional. To get the apprentice license you’ll need to do two exams: one on theory and one to demonstrate you’re competence with different procedures.

After you’ve done your 18 months of apprenticeship you are then considered ready for your next set of exams to get your full license. That’s right you need to take exams to become and apprentice and further exams after your apprenticeship in order to become a fully licensed barber.

All in all when you add it up your training will take 2.5 years at a minimum. Bonus though… you will get paid while apprenticing.

Renewal

Like most states you will need to renew your license every two years. This is simple to do and requires only that you apply and pay a fee. The state board doesn’t require you to take any extra classes before renewal but it is always good to keep up-to-date by acquiring new skills.
