How Long Is The Training At Barber Schools in Connecticut?

Considering the amount of material and the number of skills that a barber needs to learn the time it takes to become a barber in CT is just about right: 1,500 hours.

You won’t learn many things that you would in cosmetology classes such as makeup and nail care, but you will learn more male-focused topics.

Your barber program will include safety and cleanliness, hair cutting, colouring, and weaving, giving a good shave, and professionalism. You’ll also learn about the business side of being a barber and state laws pertaining to the beauty industry. Use your ZIP below to find different schools to find one that best fits your needs:

Connecticut’s Barber License Procedure

Once you’ve completed your training you’ll still need to pass exams in order to satisfy the state board that you can competently do the barber’s work.

Exams are conducted by a third party hired by the state. They will test both your practical skills and your knowledge of barbering concepts such as anatomy and sanitation.

Both the practical and written multiple choice exams must be passed with scores of no less than 70%.

Once you’ve passed the exams you are almost there. You only need to apply for and pay for your license and receive it in the mail.

Please be aware that you will need to renew your license every two years. All you’ll need to do is pay a fee — there is currently no requirement to keep your knowledge up-to-date. Though taking night courses can help advance your career.

Out-of-state Applicants

If you are from another state and hold a current license you can skip the exams and apply for a license. This will require documentation and a fee.
